Swing through the Social Media Jungle with Email Marketing and MailChimp

Yep, it’s a jungle out there – especially with the web of social media that blankets us online – but tools and technology are being developed every day to keep bring us closer with more refined filters and dashboards to sift through the masses for what we WANT to receive.

And using social media marketing is definitely one channel that cannot be ignored to build solid relationships in social media.

But that’s just ONE channel.

When building a marketing campaign, think about all the other touch points you have with your customers – especially if you are in retail, don’t miss your points of physical entry. You should be letting your customers (or prospects) know that you also have a presence in social media. Direct mail is tried and true, especially for establishments that need to sell seats on a calendar basis (the arts and entertainment), but how can you ignore the power of  Email marketing?
Mailchimp lets you do email marketing with tools to incorporate your social media into your email marketing campaign.

Mailchimp was voted by Mashable as one of the Best Social Media Tools for Entrepreneurs

If you need to brush up on why email marketing can’t be ignored, Marketingprofs has a great article that shows Four Ways Email Can Strengthen Relationships in Other Channels (and Why You Should Care)

I took a FREE webinar with MailChimp’s Raul (yep, he gave me and a few others the lowdown! on getting started. ) I’m looking to add email marketing for Mesob, an Ethiopian Restaurant in Montclair, NJ -  I am not only a huge fan , but I have the privilege of being a marketing manager for them as well.

I brought Mesob social with a Facebook Fan Page, and now I will be able to integrate email marketing with their already social group – they are engaged, engaged and they GET it!

So does Mailchimp.  Eep eep!

How to Go Viral – Become a Meme

Ever wonder how things go viral and some just lay dead in the water? You can think it is the juiciest piece of content that you’ve worked up – with strong facts you’ve worked hard to support your case. But it’s the simple content that will live longest and keep on going.

I wonder if Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me,” where this song came from, enjoyed such virality!

Be creative and engaging! Do you think this video does the trick?

How to Get Your Social Media Ducks in a Row – 3 TIPS

Social Media ducks-in-a-rowDo you have a social media campaign for a brand? For yourself as an individual? Or are you just floating around in social media hoping to make your mark?

I have personally tapped into social media and found that it WORKS if you have a clear strategy in mind. And you’ve got your ducks in a row, so you keep in line with the brand you are trying to project. Here are 5 tips to help your alignment

1. Ask: “Why am I here?”
Is your audience really going to see your message wherever your are broadcasting it, like Twitter or Facebook? If you’re not getting the response you desire, those ducks might be out of the water! Take a step back and think about this a little more.

2. Build in SEO
Remember, a good social media strategy SHOULD have SEO build into it, so that people can FIND you when they perform a search for a particular keyword phrase.

And that means, you’re going to have to say it over and over again…Because is your audience searching on that particular day? Just like an advertising campaign – FREQUENCY is key.

3.Cross-platform messages – All together now!
If you’ve got messages that appear beyond social media, like maybe e-mail marketing messages, or traditional media methods like print/radio advertising, then it’s important to make sure your ducks are in a row across platforms.

Make sure your messages are in line, because chances are you’ve got audience members that are members of a subset, who belong to one or more or your broadcast options.

So think of it as another touchpoint, and keep those ducks in a row!

Do you have a strategy you’d like to share? Please join the discussion on the Say Wow Marketing Facebook fan page! Would love to hear from you.

Social Media Panel Discussion a Hit at Columbia University!

Vickie Smith at Columbia U Social Media PanelYesterday was the new Media Event at Columbia University, and I was excited to be on the social media panel discussion – it was super awesome to be in the company of other professionals in the social media area, including Steve Grove of YouTube, Head of News and Politics.

The topic of discussion what do Social Media Professionals bring to the table as opposed to Social Media Amateurs.  And of course a question in the audience arose as to how to bring Marketing into the mix.

The discussion could have gone on MUCH longer than it did, and Daniela Bartosova, moderator and Senior Lecturer in Media Management of the Columbia Business School, was forced to cut our time right on schedule.  I was really glad when I was told that the material had been recorded and will be available on the web shortly – the social media discussion was really interesting to me.

And AFTER the panel discussion, a woman from Baruch College who was in the audience, came up and asked if I would speak at Baruch!  Of course I said yes for my alma mater (Marketing), and answered some other questions, as well, including personal branding, another area of interest to me (you can’t avoid using social media to brand yourself!).

I LOVE to answer questions that people might have about either how to market their company using social media, or how to build SEO into their brand online…Or maybe how to even help someone use social media to find a JOB, or change careers.

As I did.  And I’m loving it!  So, please let me know what YOU want to hear, and I’ll let you know as soon as the social media panel discussion is up!
